Research Focus

We are interested in breast cancer and the detection of prognostically relevant markers in this common malignancy. To elucidate new markers we use in situ hybridization techniques like FISH (flourescence in situ hybridization) and BDIH (dual color bright field hybridization), immunhistochemisty and high-throughput methods like tissue microarrays (TMAs). Our research focusses on the analysis of subgroups with specific pheno-/genotype features. We hope to identify new markers of metastasis and recurrence with our research.

Block of a Tissue Micro Array (TMA). Cores of around 1mm diameter allow high throughput analysis of immunostaining of different proteins.

Immunohistochemistry of the Tissue Micro Array (TMA).

Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization (FISH) of breast cancer tissue. This method allows the identification of chromosomal amplifications of special gene regions.
